Workshops

With the support of NDIS Information Linkages and Capacity Building funding, PDCN is now able to offer three different types of workshops:

  • NDIS Self-Management
  • Self-Advocacy – speaking up about your rights
  • Resilience

These workshops will be run by a skilled Peer Facilitator with lived experience of disability, in a safe and inclusive environment without any assumed knowledge. You can ask questions, and even receive individualised support after the workshop about specific goals or help you might need.

If you cannot attend a workshop but would like individual support, please refer to the Peer Groups section of the website and select ‘Individual support’ when registering.

Self-Advocacy Workshop

Do you need some strategies, tips, and effective methods to help you know how and when to speak up for yourself?

This free workshop will give you the opportunity to learn more about how to speak up for your rights and advocate for yourself. The workshop will cover in depth: what self-advocacy is, how to do it, when you might need it and the best ways to communicate.

Gaining clarity and building self-confidence will be discussed as will the many contexts or environments in which you might need to speak up for yourself and stand up for your rights. These could include with family, friends, service providers, healthcare professionals and more.

Individualised follow up support is also available at the conclusion of this workshop.

The next Self-Advocacy Workshops are on Wednesday 22 July 2020. You can choose between a morning session from 10.30am – 12.30pm, or an evening session from 6pm – 8pm. Please scroll down to use the registration form.

NDIS Self-Management Workshop

Are you considering self-managing your NDIS plan or a family members’ plan?

Maybe you are already self-managing an NDIS plan but would like more information and tips?

This free workshop provides an opportunity to learn more about what self-managing your NDIS plan means. The workshop will cover in depth: understanding the benefits of self-management, clarifying what you can spend your money on, providing information on how to make a payment request, suggestions on how to keep records and supports to help you do this.

This workshop is designed for participants who already have an NDIS plan and are either already self-managing or considering self-managing.

Individualised follow up support is also available at the conclusion of this workshop.

The next NDIS Self-Management Workshops are on Tuesday 28 July 2020. You can choose between a morning session from 10.30am – 12.30pm, or an evening session from 6pm – 8pm. Please scroll down to use the registration form.

Resilience Workshop

Resilience is about recognising and growing durable inner strength. It is more than just recovering from loss, trauma, or ongoing difficult situations or circumstances, it is about cultivating well-being, developing mental resources, and developing an underlying sense of happiness, love, and peace.

No matter who we are, there will be periods in our lives in which we have had to rely on and further develop our resilience.

In this workshop we will seek to:

  • Identify and assist in converting your current skills of resilience into recognisable resources
  • Build on those resources by identifying stressor & negative biases
  • Recognise emotional responses and their impact
  • Identify ways to build skills and mindsets to further develop strengths and skills in resilience
  • Provide a list of tools and resources.

The workshop is facilitated by Wendy Banfield, an adult educator with a keen interest in how our mind works. The workshop will be free of complex psychological terminology and will provide a safe space to explore what resilience means without having to expose personal uncomfortable stories.

Individualised follow up support is also available at the conclusion of this workshop.
