The Physical
Disability Council of NSW (PDCN) supports and
encourages the recent discussion of the need for
an increase in the rate of the single aged
pension.
PDCN believes a fair and
equitable increase should take into account all
pensions, including the Disability Support
Pension (DSP).
Disability brings added
costs. People with physical disabilities in NSW
have an ever increasing cost of living as well
as our equipment and support needs.
Additionally, public services such as public
transport are often not accessible to people
with physical disabilities, making it necessary
for us to use more expensive travel options to
carry out the ordinary tasks of daily living.
The DSP is currently not enough to allow people
with disabilities to access and contribute to
our community.
PDCN hopes this recent
discussion highlights the need for the Federal
pension review process to be fair and equitable.
The cost of disability must be included in
calculating payments to people with disability.
