The Physical
Disability Council of NSW (PDCN) welcomes the
boost to services for people with disabilities,
their families and their carers, as announced in
the State Budget last night.
PDCN supports the tangible
efforts of both the state and Federal
Governments to address the high level of unmet
need in service provision for people with
physical disabilities.
PDCN highlights the $17.7
million (up $7.6 million) to improve services to
young people who live in nursing homes, and
develop alternative models of support and
accommodation for young people with
disabilities.i
In addition, PDCN applauds
the additional $7.5 million for more places in
the Attendant Care Program. These additional
funds will increase assistance to people with
disabilities with high care needs, helping them
to live independently. One hundred new Attendant
Care places will be delivered, taking the total
to 190 places.ii
PDCN believes the
increases are important steps in providing
people with physical disabilities in NSW fair
and equitable access to services which provide
the opportunities for them to participate
equally in society.
