8 November 2006

Sydney, NSW — Amelia Starr, National Convenor of the Australian Network for Universal Housing Design (ANUHD) <http://www.anuhd.org/> welcomes the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) <http://www.hreoc.gov.au/> call by Commissioner Grahamn Innes for national action to make housing suitable for everyone's needs.

Ms Starr, from NSW said, "Two hundred people from all over Australia and New Zealand met in Sydney to ensure this critical issue is moved forward as a matter of national urgency."

Dr Barry Seeger, Deputy Convenor ANUHD added "South Australia has the highest proportion of older people of any Australian state or territory making the design and construction of accessible housing imperative in my state."

Bernd Bartl, from Victoria, was encouraged by the nation-wide enthusiasm for concerted action on a more open society in line with current International trends which have left Australia well behind.
