Girl still waiting for Govt to provide wheelchair
13 June 2006

NSW — There are concerns a disabled south coast girl has not received a new specialised wheelchair, despite her parents asking the New South Wales Government for one six months ago.

The young girl is immobile and at risk of spinal deformities unless she receives a new wheelchair.

The Member for South Coast, Shelley Hancock, says the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care still has not decided whether to grant the request.

"It may be that it will be another three months after the wheelchair is ordered that she gets it, if she does get it," she said.

"In the meantime, the little girl has to be strapped to a full plastic body brace, hard plastic body brace and on her back 24-hours-a-day."
