Coaches don't serve elderly, disabled - Greens
9 February 2006

NSW, AustraliaCoaches do not always cater for the elderly and disabled, so are unsuitable to replace trains, according to NSW Greens MLC Lee Rhiannon.

She made the comments while launching the 'Save Countrylink' campaign in Coffs Harbour.

Countrylink is replacing some rail services with coaches because they are more flexible, can call in at more stops, and are cheaper than running passenger trains.

"Many people actually can't travel by coach when people get older or when they have various sicknesses it's just too hard to be on a coach foir a long time," she said.
