Getting help at home comes down to luck
21 October 2004

New South Wales, Australia — The New South Wales auditor-general has found the state's largest provider of home care services is turning away more clients than it is helping.

Home Care Service is the Government-funded agency that provides in-home services to frail elderly and young disabled people.

The auditor-general's report has found it is so under-resourced that at least half the eligible people miss out on help.

The report also says that getting help depends on when the applicant calls, where they live and whether that coincides with service hours at the local branch.

The Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care says it has already taken measures to address some of the concerns.
