NSW - The Physical Disability
Council of NSW (PDCN) warmly welcomed, today,
the creation of a "time limited Working Group to
advise on the state-wide review of support
services to people with a physical disability".
The Terms of Reference for the Working Party
have been approved by the Minister for
Disability Services, the Hon Carmel Tebbut, MLC,
a move she signalled to a disability forum held
in the State Parliament on 13th November.
Invitations to join the Working Party, which
meets for the first time on 16th December, have
been issued by the Department of Ageing
Disability & Home Care (DADHC) to advocacy
organizations (including PDCN) and
non-Government disability service providers.
PDCN accepts the Government's invitation and
will work with its officers for the long term
benefit of all people with physical
disability.
Speaking in Sydney, this morning, David
Brice, President of the Physical Disability
Council of NSW, said this:
We congratulate the Minister for
Disability Services on her decision to create
this important Working Party. People with
physical disability will welcome the hope it
signals of a more inclusive NSW.
We wish to see all people with physical
disability supported adequately to live with
dignity as valued members of the communities
of NSW. The Government has clearly listened
to PDCN, to other disability organizations
and to people with physical disability
themselves. The creation of the Working Party
is a clear sign that we can collaborate on
positive outcomes for people with physical
disability.
We acknowledge the progress that has been
made by Government in many areas of
supporting people to live in the community
and to create a more accessible and inclusive
NSW. We recognise too that there are many
areas of unfinished business: that more can
and should be done to ensure the services
that people need are developed and sustained
across the whole State.
It is clear to us from the Terms of
Reference we received from DADHC that the
Government shares our commitment to build a
more supportive and inclusive future for
people with physical disability in NSW. We
will do our best to deliver.
