The DDA Standards Project welcomes the introduction yesterday of the Accessible Public Transport Standards. These Standards, formulated under the DDA will give people with disability and all fellow Australian's greater access to the wonderful and rich culture in this country. As with most projects none of this would have been possible without the work and dedication of many people. To all those involved in this process we offer our sincere thanks for their efforts and support over the past years, without the input of many this would never have happened. The DDA Standards Project would like to especially thank it's representatives, Maurice Corcoran, Margo Hodge and Kevin Murfitt, who have worked tirelessly for more than seven years on improving community access to public transport in Australia. This work will assist people with Disabilities and the general community to gain improved access to public transport. It would like to recognise Angus Downie for his work in laying the foundations that made it possible to create the accessible public transport standards. It would also like to thank the key stakeholders for their invaluable input. Congratulation to the Australian people who will now enjoy a greater level of certainty as these laws come into affect, and we know that it will be well worth the wait for all. For all inquires. |
