Federal Community Services Minister Amanda Vanstone has welcomed a commitment from the states and territories to spend $1.2 billion on disability services over the next five years. The states are now demanding a meeting with Senator Vanstone to finalise the next five-year funding plan for disability services. But Senator Vanstone says she will need individual spending commitments from each of the states before that can happen. "None of the state and territories has individually taken responsibility for a five-year spending commitment and that's what we're looking for," she said. "As soon as the states and territories give that five year spending commitment we will sit down and meet with them to finalise a five year agreement. "As we've put our money on the table for five years, we expect each of the states and territories to do the same." Source www.abc.net.au |
