Rangers use new weapon on parking cheats

PARKING rangers have a new weapon in their arsenal to crack down on disability-parking permit cheats, but advocates warn it may not be enough to stamp out widespread abuse.  City of Sydney rangers are being equipped with iPads that have access to a database of all permits that have been lost, stolen, destroyed, revoked or issued to people who have died.  The system enables rangers to do on-the-spot checks and issue fines of up to $530 where a permit is being used improperly.

National Mobility Parking Permit Announced

21 September 2010.

Parking permits for people with a disability will soon be streamlined, under an agreement between the federal government and states and territories. New South Wales residents with a disability will now be able to apply for the Australian Disability Parking Permit, while more than 300,000 existing permit holders in the state will be mailed the new national tag from October 7.
