The Physical Disability Council of NSW supports the investigation of the Loganlea Service Centre in Queensland. Observance of good hygiene practices and procedures are basic responsibilities for persons who provide care to another human being.

PDCN would argue that in a smaller group home situation such as Loganlea Service Centre, abuse is much easier to isolate and stop - in larger institutions, abuse can go on from year to year, with the person with disability in a disempowered position. Abuse of any kind is unacceptable.

The standard of care given to people with disabilities is not negotiable. People with disabilities, no matter how severe those disabilities may be, are still human beings and deserve to be treated as human beings. The alledged situation at Loganlea serves as another unfortunate example of the inappropriate level of care received by many people with severe disabilities due to the long-term failure of State and Federal governments to provide adequate funding for disability services.
