Systemic advocacy is
working for or against change of a "system", eg
laws, policies & practices.
Systemic Advocacy is
working on bringing about a change in a
situation on behalf of a group of people or working
to change a system. Systemic advocacy means
identifying a problem for a group of people and
putting together a plan to achieve a positive
resolution of that problem.
While many people who
experience difficulties may need help with an
individual issues (individual
advocacy) sometimes
if enough people experience a difficulty then this
can be an indicator for systemic
advocacy.
|
Systemic Advocacy is carried
out by
- contributing to boards
and committees providing feedback, suggestions
and input to organisations;
- public
speaking;
- making presentation to
educational institutions;
- identifying current
issues and working to address them through
policy submissions or responding to draft
government policies and papers;
- initiating a educational
campaign and engaging with people to carry out
the campaign;
- through media releases
and interviews or newspaper
articles;
- printing publications
circulated through a number of different avenues
to get the message out there
... and many other
ways.
