Campaign for comprehensive
personal assistance & support services in
NSW
Personal or
local evidence to support your points of
view
As we all know,
politicians are very interested in policies
and programmes and big picture ideas about
politics. But they are just as keenly
interested in individual, personal stories,
particularly those stories which are about
people who live in the Electorate of the
politician.
If you write to you
your local Member of the State Parliament or
arrange to meet her or him, it is always best
to back up or explain policy positions with
the personal stories of real people who live
in the Electorate of the
politician.
In helping you to
prepare to write to or meet a politician
about personal assistance and support
services in NSW, therefore, it might help if
you think about these questions. If your
answer to any of them is "YES", write down
the details, in note form, to help you write
your letter or prepare for a
meeting.
Have you or anyone you
know had problems with the Home Care Service of
NSW?
(What kind of
problem? For example)
I was refused
service.
I was told to go on
a waiting list.
I was told not to
apply at this time.
I was told my hours
could not be increased.
I was told my hours
would be decreased.
I was told that some
types of work could not be done for
me.
I have no choice
about aspects of the service.
- Have you or anyone
you know had problems with the Service
Access Service run by the Department of
Ageing Disability and Home
Care?
- Have you or anyone
you know ever applied to join the
Attendant Care Programme? (If there has
ever been any kind of problem, what was or
is it?)
- Have you or anyone
you know applied for support through the
Home Care Service Virtual Pool? (If there
has ever been any kind of problem, what
was or is it?)
Personal or local evidence to support your
points of view, May 2002
